How to start 2017 right
January 1, 2017
Written by Kristen Schuster, Practice Facilitator
Out with the old and in with the new! As designated providers part ways with PQRS, Medicare Meaningful Use, and the Value-Based Modifier we say hello to CPC+. The first reporting period for CPC+ starts January 1st, 2017.
As the Regional Learning Network for Montana and Hawaii, Mountain Pacific will use this blog to help step you through this first year of CPC+ and provide helpful tips and best practices. We will also help breakdown the information from CMS and the other payers into actionable steps to help you best navigate the program.
Below is the list of first steps your organization should take for CPC+:
- Access and register for the CPC+ Practice Portal
- In the CPC+ Practice Portal:
- Review practitioner roster
- Update staff roster
- Access and register for the CPC+ Connect Portal
- Sign up for On the Plus Side newsletter by emailing CPC+ Support
- Notify Medicare beneficiaries of CPC+
- Review CMS CPC+ Implementation Guide
- Submit CMS electronic transfer authorization agreement (form CMS-588)
- Confirm electronic set up and tracking (in your EHR) for at least 9 of the 14 eCQMs
These are just beginning steps to start the CPC+ transformation process. Please review the CMS Implementation Guide for a full description of the program.
Just to clarify, the CPC+ Practice Portal is where you will maintain your practice information and submit your data for reporting. The CPC+ Connect Portal is where you can access CMS resources, post questions and communicate with CMS, Mountain Pacific and other CPC+ practices. We are in the process of setting up regional pages for both MT and HI in the CPC+ Connect Portal and will let you know when that is complete. And the On the Plus Side is a weekly newsletter, emailed to all subscribers that lists upcoming educational events, CPC+ tasks and links to CMS resources. As always, complete CPC+ information from CMS can be found on the CPC+ Connect Portal. We encourage you to access the portal and check out all available CMS CPC+ resources.
If you have any questions, or run into issues with any of the CPC+ objectives and would like help please use the “Leave a Reply” section below, or email Kristen Schuster directly with your questions or comments.
