MU: How MACRA will affect Meaningful Use

On April 27th, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a proposed rule to implement key provisions of the Medicare Access and Chip Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) with a new approach to paying clinicians for the value and quality of care they provide.
MACRA is the law. The components of MACRA that will interest you are called the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and the Alternative Payment Model (APM).
MIPS will combine the current CMS Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS), Value Based Modifier (VBM) and the EHR Incentive Program (Meaningful Use) into reporting program (MIPS includes other requirements as well as these. We’ll have a MIPS webinar later this year with full details).
APM are alternative payment models like ACOs, etc.
Beginning with the 2017 reporting year, if you participate in Medicare Part B billing, you will report meaningful use via MIPS. If you do not participate in Medicare Part B billing, you will continue to attest to meaningful use via the Medicaid EHR incentive program.
